Certain motorcycle organizations have a long-standing tradition that only men can become the chapter members and only men can wear the colors. Till today there are motorcycle organizations holding on to this rule. However, all the L. A. M. A. members enjoy the same privileges.

Damas de L. A. M. A. patches are awarded to the women members who are paying chapter membership dues, own, and ride their own motorcycle.

Since the motorcycle organization are enjoyed mostly by men the patch is awarded to show status of the women members, as oppose to the spousal members who do not own a motorcycle, in the situations when we are away from our rides.
